LOCATION: Stansted Airport
SHIFT PATTERN: 4 days on 4 days off, 40 hours per week
PAY RATE: £16.48 per hour
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Working as a member of the Assisted Passenger Airport Driving Team, you will drive the Company’s specialist vehicles on the airfield to transfer passengers with assistance needs to and from the aircraft to the terminal building. The vehicles range from minibuses to Class 2 rigid heavy goods type vehicles, for which full training and instruction will be given. You will also be required to assist passengers onto the aircraft, to their seat or into the ABM vehicles or terminal buildings which involves passenger and manual handling techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete the daily Vehicle Check Sheet, to maintain the operational reliability of the vehicle, reporting when necessary any vehicle defaults in line with the Vehicle Inspection procedure.
- Drive the Company vehicles ensuring that the vehicle is safe and secure at all times.
- Operate the vehicle safely within close proximity to the aircraft using all safety systems of the vehicle.
- Maintain a clean and tidy vehicle at all times.
- Collect assistance passengers from the gate and onto the ABM vehicles and into the aircraft using equipment as dictated by the passengers needs. This could vary from carrying passengers hand‑luggage down the aisle to lifting the passenger into their seat with a pro‑move sling.
- Collect the passengers at the aircraft and assist with the transfer into their seat or wheelchair through safe manual handling techniques.
- Complete Customer Service Agent (CSA) duties within the terminal when demand requires, including escorting passengers through the terminal/security and boarding flights or meeting arriving flights and assisting passengers through to baggage reclaim.
- Ensure that the Operations co‑ordinator is updated on progress of jobs at all times using PDA’s and Zello.
- Observe all Stansted airport airside driving requirements.
- Promote a safe and secure environment at all times.
Person Specification
- Manual and passenger handling experience.
- Safety focused.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
Essential
- Full clean UK driving license with D1.
Desirable
- Experience in a similar role or driving larger vehicles would be an advantage.
- Previous airport driving experience.
Essential Criteria for an Airside Pass
- Full 5‑year history that accounts for all periods of employment, self‑employment, unemployment and education (any gaps over 28 days must be verified).
- Valid photographic proof of identity e.g. passport or driving licence.
- Valid visa/proof of right to work for non‑UK and non‑EU nationals.
- Proof of National Insurance number (or evidence that you have applied for one).
- Proof of identity and address (utility bill, bank statement, etc.).
- Acceptance of and willingness to undergo a Criminal Record Check (CRC)* and Airside Security Clearance.
- Where an individual has resided 6 months or more outside the UK in the last 5 years, the appropriate clearance must be obtained (i.e., Overseas Criminal Record Check (OCRC) from the country of origin).
