Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide support to children and young people with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, and other complex learning requirements. This position is a maternity cover role and involves working within an inclusive, high‑expectation environment, fostering academic, emotional and personal development for each pupil.
Responsibilities
- Support classroom teachers by facilitating lesson activities and ensuring pupils remain engaged.
- Assist pupils in developing academic skills, communication and self-esteem.
- Collaborate closely with speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and other specialists to deliver tailored learning plans.
- Maintain a positive, resilient classroom atmosphere, celebrating small victories and encouraging progress.
- Adhere to safeguarding and recording procedures, including enhanced DBS checks and online searches.
Qualifications
- Experience working in a classroom setting is preferred but not essential; training will be provided.
- Genuine passion for supporting children with special educational needs.
- Strong team‑player attitude and willingness to support colleagues and wider staff.
- Understanding of the needs of pupils with ASD, SEMH, ADHD and related conditions.
