Overview
Role: Relief Support Worker (Casual contract) – Employment type as needed. Based across Gateshead and Sunderland in Tyne and Wear. Hours: as needed including evenings, weekends and overnight shifts (waking nights). Location: Projects across Gateshead and Sunderland. Salary: £13 per hour, on a salary scale. Application deadline: Sunday, May 31, 2026.
Responsibilities
- Provide daytime cover (weekdays, weekends, evenings between 7:30am–8:00pm) and/or waking night shifts (8:00pm–8:00am) across Gateshead and Sunderland projects. Actual hours vary by project.
- Deliver person-led, holistic, trauma-informed support to individuals on their journey out of homelessness in Psychologically Informed Environments (PIE).
- Support accommodation provision and work to help individuals gain essential life skills, health outcomes, self-worth and positive transitions.
- Build trusting relationships with people experiencing homelessness and/or those who are care experienced, including related issues such as mental ill health, trauma, abuse, substance use and offending.
- Work calmly under pressure, use initiative and remain flexible in demanding environments.
Qualifications and experience
- Experience and understanding of the needs of people experiencing homelessness and/or those who are care experienced.
- Ability to work with individuals facing mental ill-health, trauma, substance use and other complex challenges.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships.
- Flexible, adaptable and capable of working across various shifts and settings.
