Summary

To maintain a clean, safe, and pleasant environment by carrying out a range of street cleansing duties. This includes emptying of public litter bins, manual litter picking and sweeping of streets and public areas ensuring that public spaces meet high cleanliness and environmental standards.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in a similar cleansing role
  • Valid UK driving licence (preferably Category C1 or above)
  • Familiarity with safe handling of hazardous or fly‑tipped waste
  • Local Knowledge of London Borough Hounslow

General Competencies

  • Litter picking and sweeping on footways, verges, green and public spaces
  • Emptying public litter bins and replacing liners
  • Operating hand‑push sweepers (subject to training)
  • Removal of sharp objects (e.g., needles), small scale graffiti and flyposting
  • Seasonal clearance of leaves, weeds, and detritus
  • Respond to service requests and urgent cleansing issues as required
  • Carry out all duties in accordance with health and safety guidelines, safe working procedures, and risk assessments
  • Record and report issues such as fly‑tipping, graffiti, vandalism, broken glass, damage to street furniture, dead animals or overflowing bins via handheld devices or reporting forms
  • Undertake basic vehicle banksman duties to assist fleet vehicle safe manoeuvres
  • Interact with members of the public in a polite and helpful manner, acting as an ambassador for the local authority and service provider
  • Maintain a courteous and professional attitude towards the public and residents
  • Participate in training, toolbox talks, and development activities to ensure compliance and effectiveness
  • Reporting of all near misses, hazards and incidents according to the company procedures
  • Good level of physical fitness – able to walk for extended periods and work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Willingness to work early mornings, weekends, bank holidays or night work where required
  • Ability to follow instructions and work safely
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills for completing check sheets or using handheld devices
  • Team player with a proactive and flexible approach
  • Have a positive impact in the role and designated area
