Driver/Yard Operative

Turnbull & Co is a family-owned builders’ merchant with long-standing roots across Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. We’re looking for a reliable Driver/Yard Operative to join our Newark branch and play a key role in serving our trade customers and supporting daily branch operations.

This is a hands‑on, practical role supporting our Newark team and focused on getting things right for customers and working closely with our local branches.

What you’ll be doing

• Loading and unloading our fleet of delivery vehicles ensuring that all products are safely loaded, secured and are correct against the customers’ orders.
• Making local deliveries of Building materials.
• Ensuring delivery is safe to make and respecting customer’s property.
• Checking goods off with Customers and obtaining signatures for delivery.
• Handling customer queries on delivery effectively.

What we’re looking for

You don’t need previous builders’ merchant experience — we’re happy to train the right person.

What matters most is:

• A positive attitude and willingness to work.
• Being reliable, practical, and safety‑conscious.
• Able to work well as part of a team.
• Comfortable dealing with customers in a polite, professional way.
• Full Driving licence for 7.5t and driver CPC.
• A Class 2 Licence is desirable but not essential – we are willing to offer HGV training for the right person.
• Forklift experience is desirable but not essential (training available).
• Stable role based at one location.
