To work as a member of a team providing an efficient and comprehensive clerical support service for the Ward thereby supporting the delivery of high quality service to patients and staff within the department.

This is a very rewarding but also very busy role and would suit someone who can stay calm under pressure in challenging situations, whilst carrying out a variety of tasks as no two days are the same.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for patients, relatives and visitors to the Ward and must demonstrate a professional and sensitive manner and maintain confidentiality at all times.

Working as part of the Ward Team, the post holder will be required to give efficient clerical support to the nursing staff on the Ward.

Administration duties specific to the role are:

  • Providing clerical support as required e.g., admitting and discharging patients on the WPAS system, typing, data input, scanning, telephone duties, generic inbox management, liaison with patients and colleagues, appointment and diary management, minute taking, maintaining accurate records and problem solving.

Applicants must also have a good standard of education, be adaptable and have good organisational skills. A professional telephone manner is essential to receive and respond courteously to all telephone enquiries regarding patient care.

Previous Ward Clerk experience and knowledge of the Patient Administration System (WPAS) is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided.

Qualifications

  • Able to demonstrate English & Maths to GCSE C or equivalent level of experience
  • RSA 1 or Equivalent
  • NVQ 2 Admin / customer care
  • ECDL

Experience

  • Previous clerical/office experience
  • Previous NHS experience
  • WPAS User
  • Oracle
  • Able to use electronic information systems
  • Able to contribute constructively to a working environment
  • Ability to use own initiative
  • Able to communicate information clearly and sensitively in person and over the phone
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages
