Job Summary

We are looking for new Meet & Greet Volunteers to join our team in Carlisle! Our Meet & Greet Volunteers are based at the entrance to the hospital to help visitors, patients and relatives feel welcome and to help them navigate their way around the hospital. They are also on hand to answer questions, have a chat or take belongings up to patients on wards which are closed to visitors. To be a volunteer, you need to be over 18 years of age and living within the local Cumberland area.

Main duties of the job

• Carrying bags of clothing/items to the identified ward
• Carrying bags of dirty clothing from the identified ward to relatives
• Communicating with relatives
• Communicating with ward staff / security staff / Mitie staff
• Offering advice and directions
• Accompanying patients and visitors to wards or departments
• Building rapport with patients and visitors
• Locating wheelchairs if required
• Befriending patients
• Directing patients and staff to hand sanitizers, and ensuring anyone who does not have a mask uses one of the masks provided by the Trust

Qualifications and skills

• Customer service experience
• Good communication skills
• Friendly, caring and approachable personality
• Patience and an accommodating manner
• Sensitive, compassionate and tactful nature
• Ability to work on own or part of a team
• Ability to work with all groups of people

Requirements

• Over 18 years old and living within the local Cumberland area
• A Standard DBS check will be required for this volunteering post. The DBS check is free of charge for volunteers.
• Must be able to provide one morning or afternoon per week
