Job description

Based at: Civic Office / Remote (Hybrid Working)

Salary details: Grade 3 £24,796 per annum (pay award pending)

We are recruiting two short-term interns (for 8 weeks each) as part of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) at City of Doncaster Council in partnership with the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University.

Duties include

  • The HDRC Evaluation Intern will report to the HDRC Project Manager, work with a live Public Health project dataset, collating, organising and analysing the information to develop insight from numerical data. The intern will have the opportunity to develop skills in the interpretation and presentation of data. Previous experience with data management, database and/or Microsoft Excel/statistical software would be an advantage.
  • The HDRC Community Engagement Intern will report to the HDRC Research Priorities Lead and will support work to ensure research is informed by the needs of local communities. The role will involve engaging with residents and stakeholders, attending community events to gather insights and promote involvement in co‑produced research. The intern will design and deliver a small‑scale engagement project focused on a community, analyse findings, and share results.

What you will bring to the role: Transferable skills from other roles or voluntary work are welcome. Some prior understanding of the impact of the wider determinants of health on the health of individuals and populations, and of research processes, would be an advantage for both positions. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential. You should be able to independently plan and deliver work, asking for help when needed.
