Support Worker / Befriender (Male)
Location: Ayr
Hours: 16 hours per week (variable – to be discussed at interview)
Pay: £13.45 per hour
Responsibilities
- Provide support throughout the day, including personal care and various health activities, to support the wellbeing of the client.
- Assist with basic administrative tasks, such as diary planning and daily/monthly reporting.
- Offer social support, which may include accompanying the client to a local swimming pool (requiring good swimming ability), football games, walks, days out, cinema, or other social events.
- Perform household tasks such as preparing breakfast, lunch and evening meals, making hot drinks or snacks, and maintaining cleanliness of surfaces and kitchenware.
- Assist with shopping trips and other general tasks required by the employer.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect the employer’s privacy at all times.
Requirements
- Male, able to befriend and support a 34‑year‑old man with mobility issues (wheelchair use) and learning disabilities.
- Good swimming ability and comfortable in water.
- Basic administrative skills for diary planning and reporting.
- Flexible with variable hours; availability for shifts that may change week to week and to cover staff absences.
- Provide two up‑to‑date reference contacts and undergo a Protection of Vulnerable Groups Disclosure check.
- Six‑month probationary period and provision of a 1‑week notice during this time if the role is not a good fit.
- Preferred: current clean driver’s licence and own vehicle.
- Previous experience in a caring role is advantageous but not mandatory.
Employment terms
- 16 hours per week, variable – to be discussed at interview.
- Annual leave of 5.6 weeks (inclusive of public holidays).
- Schedule may vary week to week and the post may change according to the employer’s needs.
- Must be willing to help when other staff are on leave or sick.
