The Opportunity
The successful candidate will gain a broad range of professional experience within a busy and dynamic property department, including Estate Management, Valuation, Landlord and Tenant, Agency and Compulsory Purchase. This role is career‑graded, with a commitment to a 5‑year Chartered Surveyor Apprenticeship in accordance with the Apprenticeship Standard ST0331 on the Property Pathway. The Apprenticeship takes 5 years, requiring a BSc (Hons) degree and study toward the Assessment of Professional Competence to qualify as a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS).
How I Will Learn
- Degree Apprenticeship route taught one day a week during term time at Nottingham Trent University, alongside full‑time students on the BSc (Hons) Real Estate course.
- Uni day runs from 9 am to about 6 pm, with three subject areas taught each day.
- The course is organised into structured modules delivered through lectures, tutorials, workshops, seminar groups, site visits, laboratory sessions, and individual and group projects.
- Guest lectures from external practitioner experts and extensive use of case studies and real‑company projects enhance the delivery.
- Although primarily based within the Estates service, the apprentice will access wider property teams for a broad range of experience.
- Excellent communication skills, integration with multidisciplinary teams, and proactive support for colleagues are essential.
- Sound IT knowledge and understanding of corporate asset management systems will be beneficial for contributing to the Council’s Corporate Property data programme.
