About the role
We are looking for an Adult learning tutor to teach BSL at centres around the county for 2-4 hours per week, mostly evenings. We also deliver Deaf Awareness training to organisations, which may add additional work delivering this to demand. It may be possible to travel to more than one centre each week to deliver courses.
- Create an atmosphere where learners can reach their full potential and teaching and learning is outstanding
- Set goals that stretch and challenge – negotiating individual learning outcomes and content
- Meet varying needs of learners (SEND, learning style etc) in a professional and sensitive manner
- Plan and deliver effective learning programmes for diverse groups or individuals in a safe and inclusive environment
- Use a variety of relevant and up to date teaching methods to enable and support differentiated learning, including the appropriate use of ICT in the classroom and online
- Promote the benefits of technology and support learners in its use
- Review and evaluate learning and teaching in order to plan for improvement
- Engage fully with opportunities for continuing professional development, at least 30 hours annually
We provide generous remuneration, with rates from £35.76 for each teaching hour delivered. This includes planning, preparation, and CPD, with annual incremental progression.

About You
To apply for this post, you must be able to evidence in your application how you meet the following criteria
- A nationally approved teaching qualification, minimum Level 3 but preferably Level 5
- Minimum Level 3 BSL
- Recent experience teaching BSL, ideally to adults, and an active engagement in the subject
- Good functional skills (to at least NVQ Level 2 or above in English, Maths and ICT)
- The ability to use ICT for professional communications, using email and attachments and to access the learning platform on Moodle, both as a teaching method in class and also to support learners in between classes by adding material to your class page and promoting independent learning
- Understanding of the national professional standards in teaching and learning
- Understanding of RARPA (Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement) and know how to apply its principles and processes
