The role
As a Senior Pharmacy Support Worker (Primary Care) within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, you will play a vital role in supporting safe and effective use of medicines across our communities. Working as part of a collaborative Primary Care Pharmacy Team, you will contribute to improving patient outcomes and promoting independence through high‑quality pharmacotherapy services. This is a rewarding opportunity to be at the heart of patient care, working closely with GP practices, community pharmacies and multidisciplinary teams. You will support innovative prescribing practices and help deliver cost‑effective, patient‑centred care across a diverse and dynamic healthcare system.
Candidates will only be considered if they hold a full, valid UK driving licence.
Duration, Location and Working Pattern
- Duration: Permanent
- Location: Kirkintilloch Health and Care Centre
- Hours: Part‑time (28.8 Hours)
- Working Pattern: Monday‑Friday (08:30‑16:30) over 4 days
- Salary is Pro Rata for part‑time hours.
Key responsibilities
- Support prescription management processes within GP practices, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
- Undertake non‑clinical medication reviews in line with agreed protocols and identify potential issues.
- Act as a key point of contact for pharmacy, GP practice and community pharmacy queries, triaging appropriately.
- Collect, analyse and present prescribing and clinical data to support pharmacy team activities.
- Assist with medicine reconciliation and updating patient records in line with standard procedures.
- Coordinate pharmacist clinics and support the delivery of pharmacotherapy services across practices.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
- Experience working in an administrative or healthcare environment with exposure to medicines management.
- Strong understanding of medicines commonly prescribed in primary care and relevant prescribing practices.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain high levels of accuracy in patient record management.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage sensitively with patients and colleagues.
- Good IT skills, including use of systems such as Word, Excel and electronic patient record systems.
- Ability to organise workload, prioritise tasks and work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable qualifications/experience
- SVQ2 Pharmacy Services (or working towards); experience working in a pharmacy environment.
- Experience acting as a mentor/trainer to newer, less experienced team members.
- Basic knowledge of the role of pharmacy services in primary care.
- Awareness of law and good practice relating to prescribing, storage, and handling of medicines.
