Job Overview

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Highways Inspector to join our NMC SW account in Polmadie, Glasgow. The NMC South West account works in partnership with Transport Scotland South West since August 2020, responsible for inspections, cyclical maintenance, asset management, scheme delivery, winter maintenance and incident response.

The team is first on the scene to assist road users on the network, delivering engineering design and operational delivery services for over 600 kilometres of road and 1,650 structures, ensuring reliable journey times and a high level of customer care for the people and businesses that use these roads every day.

By keeping our highways well‑maintained through all seasons and traffic incidents, we create safe, well‑functioning spaces that minimise disruption and support thriving communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out inspections in accordance with the Well‑Maintained Highways Code of General Practice
  • Collect and manage data for highways inventory items and maintain a GIS database
  • Ensure contract compliance on data quality management issues
  • Develop timely and accurate reports and assist with project administration as required
  • Comply with relevant health and safety legislation
  • Assist with the establishment and implementation of a programme of inspections and investigations

Desired Qualities

  • Excellent communicator able to manage stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong project management knowledge
  • Proficient in IT packages such as MS Office
  • Holder of a full UK Driving Licence

Qualifications

Holder of a full UK Driving Licence.

Ideally, qualification in relevant inspectors courses, including defect identification, monitoring and recording, and Personal Highway Safety (PHS) certified.

Preferable experience using a GIS‑based system such as Q‑GIS, Arc‑GIS or similar.

Professional membership credentials are desirable but not essential; development will be provided.
