A qualified electrician is required at HMP Whatton to work in a busy maintenance team. This is a long‑term temporary contract offering full‑time hours, with the possibility of a permanent role for the right candidate.
Responsibilities
- Complete structured SFG20‑based Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) tasks, including daily, weekly, monthly and annual maintenance, incorporating fault‑finding and reactive work to ensure statutory and mandatory compliance.
- Complete service sheets and paperwork for PPM and reactive electrical tasks with full work details, findings and electrical test results as required.
- Carry out like‑for‑like replacements and other minor electrical work with the relevant electrical inspections and tests carried out and results recorded in accordance with BS7671.
- Assist the responsible person and authorised person when requested, ensuring all electrical systems are safe, compliant and functioning effectively.
- Diagnose and replace failed electrical components.
- Actively fault‑find and problem‑solve on electrical systems across the prison.
- Assist escorting duties and other duties as required.
- Follow MOJ Security protocols, including tool management.
- Ensure that Health & Safety standards, Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work are consistently implemented and followed across all appropriate work streams.
Qualifications and Experience
- City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation works or equivalent BS7671 18th Edition, or consideration of 17th Edition with upskilling to 18th Edition.
- Good working knowledge of planned and preventive maintenance operations.
- Good Health & Safety knowledge.
- Excellent organisational, time management and people skills.
- Experience of working under pressure to tight deadlines.
- Ability to work at heights.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Understanding of fire alarm and CCTV systems.
- Strong communication skills.
- Basic IT skills.
- Must pass MOJ Prison Clearance (valid for 5 years and transferable to similar category prisons).
