Location: Glasgow
Job Description:

Job Opportunity

JR PAT Testing is growing rapidly across the UK and we are looking for experienced PAT engineers who have their own equipment and insurance in place.

If you are self‑employed or wish to become self‑employed, we would like to hear from you.

The onboarding process starts with a friendly conversation. All engineers must have their own insurance and keep their equipment calibrated at least once a year. In return, we provide an engineer handbook, contract for services, branded clothing, labels, and technical support.

Job Description

We offer self‑employed positions with flexible hours in Glasgow and the surrounding commuting zones. The role offers potential earnings on a pro‑rata basis depending on the rate per appliance, the number of tests and job dynamics. Projects range from one‑day jobs to long‑term contracts, allowing you to discuss details and determine what works best for you.

To be successful you must hold a City & Guilds 2377 PAT qualification or equivalent, be reliable, honest, and have a ‘can‑do’ attitude. All necessary equipment, including testing instruments, measuring devices and additional tools, must be kept up‑to‑date, in good working order, and meet relevant regulations.

Requirements

  • Employment Type: Self‑employed PAT engineer.
  • Education Level: City & Guilds 2377 or equivalent.
  • Experience: Proven competence in line with the C&G.
  • Location: Glasgow and commutable areas.
  • Commute: Reasonable commuting distance or willing to travel nationally.
  • Salary: Discussed when booking a job.

Typical Day

As a PAT engineer you will travel to a variety of sites, from hospitals to retail outlets. Your day begins by packing tools and equipment into your van. You then test appliances—such as microwaves, kettles and computers—to determine if they are safe to use or need repair. You inform users of the results, explain why certain appliances may be unfit, and record findings in a test report book or electronic system. You may also complete additional paperwork such as completion certificates and checklists. Throughout the day you stay organized and ensure all tests are completed accurately and efficiently.

The role is physically and mentally demanding but rewarding: you help keep workplaces safe and develop your own knowledge and expertise.
