Job Description:

Electronics Technician / Prototype Engineer (PCB, Soldering and Hardware Build)

Location: Devizes

Salary: Competitive

We’re looking for a hands‑on Electronics Technician / Prototype Engineer to take circuit designs and turn them into fully working physical devices. This is a practical, build‑focused role where you’ll be assembling, modifying, and refining prototypes used in real‑world applications.

If you enjoy PCB soldering, wiring, debugging, and physically building hardware, this role will suit you.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Working closely with engineers and developers to bring new products to life.
  • Build and assemble electronic prototypes from schematics and BOMs.
  • Carry out PCB assembly, soldering, and rework (SMT/SMD and through‑hole).
  • Perform fine‑pitch soldering and board modifications.
  • Design and build internal wiring and cable harnesses.
  • Integrate electronics into mechanical enclosures (metal, plastic, 3D printed parts).
  • Troubleshoot faults and improve prototype builds.
  • Support R&D and product development through hands‑on iteration.

Skills And Experience

  • Practical, hands‑on experience in:
  • PCB assembly and soldering (SMT/SMD and through‑hole).
  • Reading circuit diagrams and technical drawings.
  • Electronics prototyping or product build work.
  • Wiring, crimping, and cable harness assembly.
  • Using lab/test equipment (multimeter, oscilloscope, etc.).
  • Mechanical assembly (enclosures, fittings, basic fabrication).

Nice to Have (Not Essential)

  • IPC certification (e.g., IPC‑A‑610, IPC 7711/7721).
  • Experience in R&D, product development, or prototype environments.
  • Familiarity with cable standards (IPC/WHMA‑A‑620).

Who This Role Suits

  • Electronics Technicians who enjoy hands‑on build work.
  • Prototype or R&D Technicians.
  • Hardware Engineers who prefer practical work over desk‑based design.
  • Skilled hobbyists or makers with strong soldering and build experience.

Why Apply?

  • Work on real prototype development, not repetitive production.
  • Variety of work across electronics, wiring, and mechanical builds.
  • Opportunity to influence design improvements and product quality.
  • Fast‑paced, hands‑on engineering environment.
