Plumbing & Domestic Heating Technician Apprenticeship

Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technicians plan, install, service, commission and maintain all aspects of plumbing and heating systems. Plumbing and domestic heating technicians can find themselves working inside or outside a property. Over the course of the apprenticeship, the learner will be trained to work independently and without immediate supervision in an efficient and safe manner. They can set out jobs from drawings and specifications and identify the necessary installation materials. Finally, they will be working towards industry standards and continuously showcasing positive H&S practises. Typical duties include:

  • Accurately measure, cut, bend, and connect metallic and plastic pipework;
  • 1st and 2nd fix plumbing systems
  • Working on a range of equipment and appliances including water pumps, air con units, thermostats, pressure relief valves;
  • Waste, soil stacks, and rainwater pipework;
  • Commissioning/decommissioning equipment and appliances.

Trade/Site-Based Role – This role involves regular manual handling of loads up to 25kg, working outdoors, and working on uneven terrain. K10 Apprenticeships will consider reasonable adjustments where possible to support individuals in carrying out the essential duties of the role.

Note: The role may involve working outdoors and on varied sites. Some site-based health and safety requirements apply.

Typical Working Week

40 hours p/w with start time typically between 07:00 & 08:00 inclusive of paid 8 hours at college.

  • Ability to quickly prioritise tasks and the initiative to dive head-first into problem solving
  • No two days are the same on the front line and not every day goes to plan, so you’ll need to be quick on your feet to respond!
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills and enjoy working with multiple teams
  • Ability to analyse and interpret information and effectively communicate this to different team members and audiences
  • Ability to visit different sites and training days
  • Curiosity to learn quickly in a reactive and dynamic working environment.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions to serve our customers and protect the environment
  • Able to understand and follow health and safety protocols
  • You must be living in the London Borough of Greenwich

English and Maths at GCSE Grade 3 or above, or Functional Skills at Level 1 or above. You must have also completed a Level 2 Plumbing Studies Diploma

Key Training/College Information

K10 will enrol you to the Level 3 Plumbing and Domestic Heating course and fund your qualifications through an ESFA funded training provider.

The apprenticeship duration is 48 months dependant on your previous qualifications.
