Lead, Grow and Shape a Litigation Department

An established and highly regarded high street full‑service law firm is seeking a Head of Litigation to lead and develop its growing disputes team.

With a strong local reputation and a diverse client base spanning individuals and businesses, this is a great opportunity to take ownership of a key department within a collaborative, multi‑disciplinary practice.

This role is ideal for an experienced litigation solicitor looking for autonomy, leadership responsibility and a clear pathway to partnership.

The Role: Head of Litigation

As Head of Litigation, you will lead a small but busy litigation team. You’ll manage a varied caseload while playing a central role in growing and shaping the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the litigation/disputes department
  • Manage a broad caseload including:
    • Civil litigation and small claims
    • Settlement agreements
    • Property disputes
    • Occasional higher‑value/complex disputes
    • Contentious probate matters (as required)
  • Provide early‑stage commercial dispute advice and strategy
  • Convert enquiries into fee‑paying work
  • Build relationships with internal teams to maximise cross‑referrals
  • Undertake networking and business development activity
  • Supervise and support junior team members, including a trainee

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualified Solicitor with strong litigation/disputes experience
  • Proven ability (or readiness) to lead a department
  • Broad skillset across civil and commercial disputes
  • Commercial awareness with the ability to convert enquiries into revenue
  • Collaborative mindset and strong interpersonal skills
  • Interest in business development and growing a practice
  • Ideally based locally or within commuting distance
