Lead Controls Engineer

Location: Greater Bristol area

Salary: £53,000 – £63,000 per annum + 7.5% annual bonus

Hours: Monday to Friday, core office hours with an early finish at 1:00pm every Friday

Outsource UK are recruiting a Lead Controls Engineer Outsource UK is recruiting on behalf of a leading manufacturing business for an experienced Lead Controls Engineer to join their team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a controls engineering professional to take on a leadership role, guiding a team of engineers while driving the design, development, implementation, and support of advanced control systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Controls Engineers, setting clear objectives and priorities.
  • Drive the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of control systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of control systems within wider projects.
  • Ensure all control systems meet required performance standards, safety regulations, and compliance requirements through robust testing and validation.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise for complex control system issues.
  • Support and develop junior engineers through coaching and mentoring.
  • Engage with customers to understand requirements and provide technical guidance and support.
  • Stay current with emerging control systems technologies and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

About You:

  • HND, Degree, or equivalent qualification in a relevant technical discipline
  • Strong PLC programming experience
  • HMI programming experience using VB.NET or other high-level programming languages.
  • Experience producing technical documentation.
  • Strong communication skills with a good level of spoken and written English.
  • Previous experience within controls and software engineering in a relevant industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as Modbus TCP and EtherCAT.
  • Experience working within complex engineering or manufacturing environments.
