Senior Design Engineer

Company: Gaussion
Apply for the Senior Design Engineer
Location: London
Job Description:

About us

At Gaussion we want to reduce charging times for electric vehicles (EVs) so that they are comparable with refuelling a traditional combustion vehicle. We believe that our patent-protected technology can achieve this, meaning lower resistance, faster EV charging and longer warranties. With a rapid expansion of our London headquarters, we have several opportunities to join our team.

We foster a collaborative and innovative work culture, where forward-thinking ideas and proactive learning are valued. Our close-knit team thrives in a fast-paced environment, driven by a shared passion for pushing the boundaries of energy and mobility solutions.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the end-to-end mechanical design of battery modules and packs, from concept through to prototype and production release.
  • Design jigs, fixtures, and bespoke test equipment to support assembly, characterisation, and validation activities.
  • Produce detailed 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings, ensuring GD&T compliance and full design intent capture for manufacture and assembly.
  • Drive design feasibility studies, perform hand calculations, and work with simulation tools to validate structural and thermal performance.
  • Generate and maintain technical documentation including design specifications, BOMs, assembly instructions, and test reports.

You will report into the Head of Mechanical, working collaboratively across our multidisciplinary team to ensure designs are delivered on time and to specification. You will actively contribute to design reviews, support prototype builds, and help shape our engineering processes as the company scales.

Requirements:

We are looking for an experienced engineer who can demonstrate the following:

  • A degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years or more of industry experience within similar roles.
  • Proven experience in mechanical design, with a strong CAD portfolio (Preferably CATIA).
  • Demonstrable experience designing for manufacture and assembly (DFM/DFA), with hands-on involvement through to prototype build and test.
  • Experience designing battery modules, packs, or high-voltage electromechanical assemblies.

Preferred experience:

  • Background in designing jigs, fixtures, or bespoke test rigs, ideally in an R&D or low-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with CAE simulation software to support design validation.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards and safety requirements for high-voltage systems or energy storage.
  • Exposure to medium to high volume manufacturing processes, such as injection moulding tooling, sheet metal fabrication, or similar, with an understanding of design constraints and tolerancing for scalable production.
  • A passion for clean technology and the electrification of transport.
