Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Functional Skills Teacher / Keyworker to support a young adult with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) through a highly personalised educational and therapeutic programme.

Working across an alternative therapeutic and educational provision, the family home, and community settings, you will play a key role in helping the young person develop academic, life, communication, and independence skills as they prepare for adulthood.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging one-to-one Functional Skills lessons, including English and Maths, alongside practical subjects such as ICT, Science, Art and Cooking.
  • Support the learner to achieve appropriate Entry Level qualifications and accreditations.
  • Monitor progress and maintain evidence for assessments.
  • Work closely with therapists, parents, and professionals to support EHCP outcomes.
  • Promote communication, independence, social skills, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Support community-based learning and life skills development.
  • Provide one-to-one support, care, safeguarding, and transport between locations (vehicle provided).

You will have:

  • A recognised teaching qualification (QTS, QTLS, PGCE, Cert Ed or Level 5 DET).
  • Experience teaching Functional Skills and/or learners with SEND.
  • A positive, flexible, and creative approach to teaching.
  • Strong communication skills and a passion for helping young people achieve meaningful outcomes.
  • A full UK driving licence.
