Job Summary
University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) is a tertiary referral Cancer Centre with five outpatient day case units, four inpatient wards and many outpatient clinics. We are looking for a highly motivated and organised Senior Clinical Pharmacy Assistant to join our Cancer Services Clinical Pharmacy team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high‑quality assistant pharmaceutical support to clinical pharmacy teams within cancer services.
- Act as a liaison administrator for SACT day units, supporting the scheduling and coordination of treatment.
- Support day‑to‑day operational delivery of the service by coordinating clinical activity across multiple teams.
- Work closely with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, nursing staff, cancer teams and wider clinical services.
- Assist in managing patient pathways, ensuring timely and efficient progression through treatment.
- Contribute to the organisation and optimisation of treatment scheduling, supporting service capacity and flow.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation and data systems.
- Ensure all work is undertaken with strict confidentiality, professionalism and attention to detail.
About You
- Highly organised with strong administrative and coordination skills.
- Has a level 2 Pharmacy qualification and is experienced in working within a pharmacy, healthcare or clinical environment.
- Confident working in a multidisciplinary team setting.
- Able to prioritise workload in a fast‑paced, dynamic service.
- An excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
- Committed to maintaining high standards of patient care and safety.
- Proficient in IT systems and data management.
Qualifications
Essential
- GCSE grade C/4 or above in Mathematics and English (or equivalent).
- NVQ level 2 Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills (QCF), BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Pharmaceutical Science or Accredited Dispensing Assistants Course (NPA).
Desirable
- Post‑NVQ level 2 qualification developmental experience of a range of dispensing with formal training and annual revalidated accreditation as a dispenser.
- Understanding of pharmacy‑related computer systems.
- Understanding of Health and Safety at Work, manual handling and COSHH.
- Understanding of dispensing, stock control and supply systems and processes.
- Knowledge of stock control systems.
- Knowledge of code of practice/customer care.
- Understands the need to deliver a cost‑effective service and the required work practices to reduce waste.
Experience
Essential
- Previous experience within a Hospital Pharmacy setting.
- Experience in staff training.
- Working knowledge of pharmacy systems.
- Knowledge of drugs, side effects and where to find further information.
- Experience supporting clinical teams or multidisciplinary working.
- Awareness of cancer treatment pathways or aseptic services.

Pay & Contract
Agenda for Change – Band 3. Salary: £25,760.00 to £27,476.00 yearly.
Contract: Fixed Term – 12 month(s).
