Job Description:

An exciting opportunity for a Health and Care Support Worker (HCSW) to join the Eye Out-Patient Department Team at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. The role offers training and support within a busy, varied and fast-paced department, with flexible staff hours and standard clinic times of 8:00 am to 5:30 pm on weekdays. The position provides the chance to develop new skills in visual acuity testing, visual field testing, venepuncture, vital signs recording, and working in an intra‑vitreal injection room alongside experienced ophthalmic nurses and HCSWs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with visual acuity and visual field testing, venepuncture and vital signs recording for ambulatory ophthalmic patients.
  • Support other HCSWs and ophthalmic nurses in daily clinic duties.
  • Work alongside specialists in the intra‑vitreal injection room and other areas of the eye clinic.
  • Participate in clinic operations within a high-demand, specialist ophthalmology environment.

Qualifications and Characteristics

  • High motivation, enthusiasm and strong interest in ophthalmology.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Adaptability to a fast-paced and busy clinical environment.
  • A keen interest in developing specialist ophthalmic skills is essential.
