Control & Instrumentation Maintenance Technician – Power Generation
An opportunity has arisen for a Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Maintenance Technician to join a high-performing maintenance team supporting a large-scale power generation facility.
Working as part of a multi-skilled maintenance function alongside Mechanical and Electrical technicians, the successful candidate will carry out planned, preventative and reactive maintenance activities across a wide range of complex plant and equipment operating continuously throughout the year in a demanding operational environment.
This role is critical to maintaining safe, reliable and efficient power generation, ensuring plant availability and supporting production targets while delivering work in line with health, safety, environmental and statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver routine, planned, and corrective maintenance activities to maintain safe, reliable and efficient plant operation while following established procedures and safe working practices.
- Respond to breakdowns, emergency situations and abnormal plant conditions, taking prompt action to protect people, equipment and environmental performance.
- Diagnose and investigate technical faults across critical systems, identify root causes and support timely resolution to minimise downtime and maintain operational performance.
- Raise and manage maintenance work orders, complete relevant documentation including risk assessments, method statements and operational records.
- Support maintenance planning activities through preparation of work instructions, identification of resources and coordination of required spares and materials.
- Contribute to change management and ensure process safety considerations are embedded within all maintenance activities.
- Act as a technical point of contact for designated maintenance tasks, provide specialist C&I knowledge and support delivery standards across the maintenance team.
- Communicate effectively with operational teams regarding plant status, maintenance progress and any issues impacting availability.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency and ways of working.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Essential
- Demonstrable experience within an industrial maintenance or power generation environment (power experience advantageous).
- Strong problem‑solving, analytical and diagnostic capability.
- Competent IT skills including Microsoft Office and maintenance systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proactive approach with the ability to identify improvements and contribute to operational success.
- Flexible and adaptable approach with the ability to work effectively in changing environments.
- Minimum ONC (or equivalent experience) in an Engineering discipline.
- Completion of a recognised apprenticeship or formal technician training programme.
- Technician‑level competence in Control & Instrumentation or a related engineering discipline.
Desirable
- HNC or equivalent qualification in Engineering.
- Membership of a recognised professional institution.
- Previous experience working within power generation or similarly complex industrial environments.
