About The Role
You will help keep our nation moving every single day. As an operative you will work outdoors in a small team, supporting essential maintenance to keep the railway running safely and smoothly for passengers and freight users.
Our operative community comes from a variety of different backgrounds, and this might be your first consideration of a career in rail. We are focused on your transferable skills and behaviours, and if you can demonstrate those, we will provide you with all the necessary training to work safely and competently out on the network.
Full‑time role. Salary: £38,482. Grade: Maintenance. Note: There may be a requirement to work on call if you opt to take the Standard Maintenance contract.

Your Experience and Skills
- Carry out work safely and in accordance with the safe systems of work procedures, method statements or other instructions.
- Undertake work and associated duties for which you are trained and competent.
- Undertake work activities as directed, in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with all relevant standards.
- Check that vehicles, plant, tools, equipment and materials under your control are fit for use and are used, stored and disposed of correctly.
- Contribute to your own development.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures.
Essential Criteria
- Able to work as part of a team.
- Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Hold and retain competencies relevant to this post, required by the business need.
- Ideally hold (or be working towards) an NVQ Level 1 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject.
- Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by the business need.
