Job Overview

The post holder is responsible for the operational management and coordination of safe and effective complex patient flow processes within General Medicine and Gastroenterology, while delivering safe clinical practice and meeting national access targets for waiting times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Co‑ordinate and maximise bed usage within the General Medicine and Gastroenterology wards at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
  • Ensure safe and effective movement of patients from Accident & Emergency, Acute Medical Unit, and Critical Care to wards 205, 207, and 208.
  • Manage direct admissions from home, clinic, GP referrals, or other hospitals.
  • Assist clinical staff in the coordination of information on delayed discharge patients and patients boarding out with the General Medicine and GI wards.

Qualifications

The role requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.

Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check than is currently the case. If the post is assessed as a regulated role, your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. Any change to what is currently required will be confirmed by the Hiring Manager or the Recruitment Team.
