Role Overview

Advanced Support Worker for a 30‑year‑old man living at home in Broxburn. The individual has autism, a learning disability and epilepsy, often unpredictable. He uses a wheelchair and relies on support for daily living and independence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 2:1 support 24/7, 7 days a week, managing challenges and crisis situations
  • Assist with medication administration, personal care, shopping, cooking and everyday tasks
  • Promote independence and decision‑making using social stories and other communication aids
  • Maintain boundaries, manage fixation and redirect behavior in a calm manner
  • Support participation in hobbies: trains, buses, ice‑cream vans, recycling, music, feeding birds
  • Use communication aids and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) techniques where needed
  • Work closely with the team within an integrated care setting

Qualifications

  • Level 3 qualification in Social Care (or above)
  • Strong experience in mental health, autism and sensory communication
  • Experience with physical health support and medication management
  • Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support methods, Makaton and Picture Exchange System (PENS)
  • Experience required if no formal qualification – must have relevant social care experience
