Senior Technician (Workshops)
We are seeking a motivated and collaborative individual to join our team as a Senior Technician (Workshops). This role offers an exciting opportunity to deliver high-quality technical support for teaching, research and professional services within the Faculty of Science & Engineering. You will join a dynamic technical operations team, contributing to a sector‑leading workshop service and supporting innovative engineering and scientific activity.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacturing precision components and assemblies using conventional and CNC machine tools
- Supporting teaching, research and student projects, including demonstrating workshop equipment
- Providing technical guidance and design advice for experimental rigs and equipment
- Maintaining, servicing and repairing equipment to ensure minimal disruption to operations
- Collaborating with staff, students and external stakeholders, while supporting and mentoring junior technicians and apprentices
Essential Criteria
- Qualification in a science or engineering discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Experience using conventional and CNC machining equipment and interpreting engineering drawings
- Experience in a technical or engineering role, including machining to tight tolerances and use of CAD/CAM
- Strong communication, teamwork and customer service skills
- Knowledge and application of health and safety practices in a technical environment
Desirable Criteria
- Experience supporting teaching or delivering practical sessions
- Experience working in a Higher Education or research environment
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment servicing and repair
- Previous supervisory or line management experience
