Position
Prison Officer – HMP Ashfield, Bristol (BS16 9QJ)
Salary: £28,187 per annum, rising to £29,271 after 12 months and to £33,337 after 3 years of service. Full‑time, permanent, average 40 hrs per week.
Responsibilities
- Supervise prisoners in all aspects of prison‑wing activity.
- Oversee work and education programmes, encouraging prisoner participation.
- Handle operational matters such as headcounts, cell searches, security, and administrative processes.
- Manage prisoners at risk of self‑harm.
- Cover 24/7 shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, nights, and bank holidays, on a rota basis.

Training & Development
- 10‑week Initial Training Course (ITC) at the prison – 8 weeks classroom + 2 weeks shadowing.
- Diploma in Custodial Care, First Aid, Control and Restraint training.
- Optional PCO Portfolio or PCO Apprenticeship to progress salary to £33,337.
Eligibility & Requirements
• Not eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship under current UK Home Office rules.• Must have a valid right to work in the UK (e.g., UK citizenship, settled status, etc.).• Minimum of two years remaining on your current visa and at least one year of residency in the UK.• Minimum required skills and personal qualities: communication, teamwork, resilience, patience, and a commitment to supporting others.
Security Clearance
All offers are subject to a Ministry of Justice Enhanced Level 2 clearance and Enhanced DBS with adult and child barring vetting. Applicants must provide five years of employment and education history.
