Responsibilities
- Provide audiology cover to ENT Outpatients Department clinics, including masked air and bone conduction audiometry and tympanometry.
- Discuss results with patients and their family/carer.
- Undertake Stage A daily calibration checks and maintain records for audiological equipment.
- Perform routine aspects of all adult hearing aid and rehabilitation services within the department, including community site clinics and domiciliary visits.
- Interpret results by collating all available information to decide on appropriate management: whether further audiological assessment, ENT referral, or treatment such as hearing aid fitting or therapy is required.
- Explain results to patients and, where appropriate, emphasise the importance of ongoing surveillance.
- Take accurate ear impressions on patients of all ages, following British Society of Audiology recommended procedures.
- Verify hearing aid prescriptions using probe tube microphone measurements.
- Attend regular staff meetings and internal/external training courses as appropriate.
- Transport expensive equipment and stock (hearing aids and consumables) to community hospitals or outreach clinics as required.
- Keep the patient management system (Auditbase) up to date so that patient progress is monitored, rehabilitation schedules are adhered to, and stock is appropriately managed.
Qualifications and Eligibility
- Level 6 Healthcare Science Apprenticeship in Audiology at Aston University, part‑time study with qualification upon completion (BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science – Audiology and an Apprenticeship Certificate).
- Salary paid and learning funded while working towards the degree.
- Aged 16 or over.
- Resident in the UK/EU for the last 3 years.
- Must not already hold a qualification at the same level or above in the same or a related field, nor be in any formal government‑funded education at enrolment.
- Minimum 5 GCSEs, including Mathematics and English at grade C/4 or above, or equivalent Level 2 Functional Skills.
- Minimum 3 A‑levels at marks ABB, including one Science A‑level, or equivalent BTEC at DDD.
- Applicants with Level 4 Audiology Apprenticeship qualifications may be considered, but these are not accepted as accreditation of prior learning.
