The Business
A scaling SaaS business with international operations, seeking its first dedicated senior finance leader. The business is at a significant stage of growth, with a clear mandate to build a professional, automated finance function capable of supporting the next phase of scale.
The Role
Reporting directly to the CEO, the CFO takes full ownership of the finance function. This is a first-hire appointment: the incoming leader will design and build the function rather than inherit one. The role carries genuine commercial influence, equity participation, and a direct relationship with the CEO and board.
Responsibilities
Commercial Finance and SaaS Metrics
Establish and own the SaaS metrics framework across ARR, MRR, NRR, churn, CAC, and LTV. Build the forecasting model, revenue bridge, and customer-level commercial data infrastructure. Partner with the CEO and C-suite on pipeline visibility, deal quality, and revenue performance.
Financial Planning and Reporting
Lead the annual budget and rolling forecast cycle. Produce board-level reporting packs. Manage multi-entity consolidation and maintain compliance with UK GAAP and applicable international standards.
Finance Function and Systems
Design and implement the finance infrastructure, including systems selection and deployment. Build scalable, automated processes suited to a growing SaaS business. Identify and apply AI-led automation across finance workflows.
CEO and Board Partnership
Serve as the primary financial advisor to the CEO. Contribute to board reporting, capital allocation, and commercial strategy. The role requires a finance leader who engages at a strategic level and brings independent judgement to the leadership team.
Tax, Compliance and Treasury
Oversee multi-jurisdiction corporate tax, VAT, and regulatory compliance. Manage cash flow, banking, intercompany positions, and FX exposure.
People and HR
Design compensation and incentive structures. Assume near-term oversight of the HR function with a dedicated direct report.
Candidate Profile
Essential Requirements
• Native fluency in SaaS financial metrics: ARR, MRR, NRR, churn, CAC, LTV. This is the language you think in, not a framework you apply when asked.
• Proven track record as the most senior finance leader in a founder-led or early-stage SaaS business, with full ownership of the finance function from scratch. Revenue range of £5M to £30M is the relevant frame of reference.
• A builder: someone who has stood up a robust, scalable finance operation on lean resource within 12 to 18 months and is energised by doing it again.
• Able to operate as a genuine CEO partner: influencing commercial strategy, challenging assumptions, and leading from conviction.
• UK-based with ability to commit to 3 days per week in London.
• Fully qualified accountant: ACA, ACCA, or CIMA (ACA preferred).
Strong Differentiators
• Experience selecting and implementing finance and revenue operations systems in a SaaS environment.
• M&A integration experience from an accounting and financial reporting perspective.
• Background preparing a business for investment or exit.
• Background in SaaS, data services, or subscription analytics businesses.
