Chair of Audit & Risk Committee and Board Members
Location: North London / Enfield
Remuneration: £4,000 p/annum for Chair of Audit & Risk Committee; £3,000 p/annum for Board Members
Time commitment: Approximately one day per month
Closing date: 10am, Monday 6 July
Christian Action Housing Association is looking for new Board Members, including our Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee, to join us at an important point in our journey.
We have served communities across North London since 1966, providing affordable housing and support across Enfield, Barnet, Haringey and Waltham Forest. Our work spans general needs housing, independent living, young people’s services and specialist community-based provision. The breadth of our work is distinctive for an organisation of our size and reflects our commitment to responding to real local need.
Christian Action has been through a period of significant change, challenge and renewal. Following previous regulatory downgrades, we have worked with focus and discipline to restore compliance, strengthen governance and build a more effective relationship between the Board and Executive team. That journey has required honesty, resilience and a clear commitment to improvement.
We are now looking ahead from a stronger foundation, with renewed confidence and a clear sense of purpose. Our next phase is about careful, purposeful growth. We want to strengthen our local partnerships, increase our visibility in the boroughs where we operate, and continue developing services that make a practical difference to people’s lives. We are ambitious about the future, but that ambition must be matched by strong governance, sound judgement and a clear understanding of risk.
This is a board opportunity for people who want their contribution to count. You will be joining an organisation that is small enough for individual Board Members to make a visible and meaningful contribution, but complex enough to offer serious strategic challenge. We are looking for people who can think carefully, challenge constructively and bring both expertise and commitment to our next chapter.
CAHA is particularly interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Finance and treasury management
- Housing management, including customer experience and consumer standards
- Asset management
- Audit and risk
We recognise that valuable insight can come from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. In particular, we would welcome applications from candidates who can bring resident or lived experience of social housing, alongside the professional skills and expertise sought for these roles.
About You
We are looking for people who share our commitment to housing those in need and who are motivated by the opportunity to help shape a community-based organisation with renewed momentum and ambition.
You may already have senior-level experience within social housing, or bring relevant executive or non-executive experience from another sector. What matters most is that you can contribute to strong governance, thoughtful debate and decisions that support our residents, staff, partners and communities.
- Senior-level experience within the social housing sector, or senior executive or non-executive experience in another relevant sector.
- Experience as a Board member in either social housing or another related sector.
- Effective communication and influencing skills.
- Ability to act independently and provide constructive challenge to peers.
- Strong analytical capability, with the ability to assess complex information and concepts.
- Genuine interest in housing those in need, with a willingness to learn and develop in this field.
- Understanding of the role of a Board and willingness to accept the statutory duties, responsibilities and liabilities of Board membership in a charitable registered provider of social housing.
- Ability to maintain high standards of probity and work within regulatory and governance frameworks.
- Willingness and ability to devote the necessary time and effort required for the role.
- Knowledge of North London and its local housing and community issues would be helpful, but is not essential.
The appointment is for an initial three-year term, renewable up to a maximum overall tenure of six years. There are typically five Board meetings each year, alongside four Committee meetings, a strategy day and an annual general meeting.
Meetings are currently held through a mix of digital and in-person arrangements, with CAHA’s office located at Benedict House, 61 Island Centre Way, Enfield, EN3 6GS.
