A well-established architectural practice is looking to appoint a Principal Designer (Building Regulations & CDM) to join their team. This is a key role within the practice, supporting the delivery of compliant, safe, and well-coordinated design information across all project stages.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in architecture, building control, project management, or health and safety who enjoys working across design teams and influencing project outcomes from inception to completion.

Requirements
- Experience in architecture, building control, project management, or construction health & safety.
- Strong knowledge of Building Regulations and the Building Safety Act 2022.
- Understanding of HRBs and Gateway processes.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams.
- Strong attention to detail and compliance-focused mindset.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to influence design outcomes and manage risk.
Desirable
- Professional membership (RIBA, CIAT, RICS, CIOB, CABE or similar).
- Experience in Principal Designer or CDM advisory roles.
- Familiarity with BIM workflows and digital coordination tools.
- Site inspection or construction stage experience.
The Role
As Principal Designer, you will play a key role in ensuring compliance and coordination across all project stages.
Key responsibilities include
- Acting as Principal Designer under CDM and Building Regulations.
- Coordinating design risk and compliance information.
- Reviewing design packages for regulatory compliance.
- Supporting Gateway submissions and approvals process.
- Maintaining compliance trackers and project documentation.
- Attending design team and client meetings.
- Advising on Building Safety Act requirements.
- Supporting project teams across multiple sectors and stages.
- Carrying out site visits where required.
- Contributing to quality assurance and continuous improvement.
