Job Overview
This is a 10pa Consultant post supporting the existing consultant team. The appointee will be based at The Christie and will provide consultant level care for patients with HPB and NET malignancies, including outpatient review through clinics, day case units and inpatient care on the main adult oncology wards.
Main Duties of the Job
- Outpatient and inpatient reviews.
- Participate in all aspects of clinical governance.
Responsibilities
- Management of patients with HPB and NET malignancies receiving standard therapy and participating in phase I/II/III trials, including treatment decisions and ongoing care.
- Maintain up-to-date protocols, guidelines and conduct clinical audit under supervision of senior consultants.
- Contribute to current research projects and explore new research opportunities within the disease groups.
- Revise and develop evidence‑based protocols for patient care and perform associated administrative duties.
- Engage in continuing professional development in line with Royal College of Physicians recommendations.
- Teach undergraduate medical students on oncology topics as appropriate.
- Actively train junior doctors and multidisciplinary team members in inpatient and outpatient settings, serving as clinical and educational supervisor.
- Participate in clinical audit as a member of The Christie Medical Staff Committee.
- Provide 7.5 direct clinical care hours per week and 2.5 supporting professional activities, including 0.25 hours of supervision.
- Attend the on‑call rota, averaging 1.20 hours of commitment.
Job Plan Timetable (Indicative)
Monday to Friday, alternating between AM and PM sessions that include SPA/Admin duties, clinic reviews, MDT participation, ward rounds, research or clinical trial meetings, and post‑event administrative work. Exact schedule will be confirmed on commencement.

Attainments
Essential
- MRCP or equivalent qualification.
- GMC registration with a license to practice and entry on the GMC specialist register via either (a) Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) expected within six months of interview or (b) Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).
Desirable
- Evidence of productive ethical research relevant to oncology.
- Demonstrable publication potential (e.g., first‑author original article publications).
Experience
Essential
- Extensive experience in medical oncology and clinical trials, with a demonstrated interest in improving patient outcomes.
- Experience independently managing patients with an oncological diagnosis.
- Experience teaching undergraduates and conducting clinical audit.
- Experience supporting and mentoring junior colleagues.
Desirable
- HPB/NET cancer experience.
- Leadership experience within a service area.
