Senior Structural Engineer sought at this friendly and reputable SMS Structural Consultancy. The role is based in Poole.

Overview

Our client is a friendly, close-knit partnership of structural and civil engineers delivering on a variety of projects ranging from extensions and single properties up to housing estates, schools, industrial estates.

They are now seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to take a leading role within their Poole team, helping to deliver and maintain the highest quality structural engineering outcomes across a diverse range of projects, while helping to develop junior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Providing technical design best practice with other engineers, architects and contractors for building projects.
  • Responsible for the production of technical design information, including drawings, calculations, specifications and reports
  • Liaising with clients, local authorities and other team members
  • The project management and financial control of a range of projects
  • Assisting in the preparation of bids and fee proposals
  • Mentoring junior engineers
  • Developing business with new and existing clients
  • Designing in all the primary construction materials: steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber
  • Learning to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of the use of the above materials for specific projects.

Requirements

  • Preferably Chartered (or Associate/Incorporated Engineer) or a minimum of 5 years’ relevant track record and working towards professional status
  • Track record of leading and managing small teams, delegating and supervising the work of team members and acting as a mentor for junior members to develop their technical skills
  • Track record in liaising with clients, associated professionals and other disciplines team members on all relevant aspects of projects
  • Background designing all the primary construction materials: steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber and able to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of the use of these materials for specific projects
  • Track record carrying out structural appraisals on buildings and producing written reports, including for basement impact assessments, listed building applications and house purchases
  • Competent in using a variety of methods of analysis and media, including traditional hand calculations and computer analysis using proprietary software, to solve structural engineering problems
  • Knowledge, use of and review of appropriate Eurocodes, British Standards and specifications and applying these to the structural design of projects
  • Knowledge and track record involving construction techniques, construction plant and machinery, temporary support systems, construction programming and sequencing – ideally having had a period of site work on one or more construction projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good understanding of the CDM 2015 Regulations
  • Able to assist during the construction stage, including site inspections
  • Track record of working on new development projects and/or existing buildings
  • Full Uk driving licence
