Lead AI Engineer

MCS Group is working with a new entrant to NI as they seek to hire a Principal Software Engineer. A fully remote role within Northern Ireland, this is a brilliant opportunity for a Principal or Lead Software Engineer who is fully embracing modern tooling and AI to move fast, reduce overheads, and turn ideas into working systems quickly. You’ll be the first hire for the business in Northern Ireland also.

What you’ll do

• The Principal Software Engineer will build and ship real systems end to end, from early idea to production
• Modernise existing platforms without defaulting to big rewrites
• Move services toward cloud-native ways of working where it makes sense
• Deliver fast PoCs to prove value, then scale what works
• Make smart, pragmatic engineering decisions that keep momentum high
• Use AI to accelerate delivery without compromising quality

What success looks like

• Legacy systems improved and moving forward
• Features and products shipped quickly and used
• Early ideas proven fast, with clear paths to production
• Simple, scalable architectures that avoid unnecessary complexity

What you’ll bring

• Solid commercial experience at a principal or lead level, where you’ve been owning, building and running production systems
• Strong engineering fundamentals and good judgement
• Experience with cloud, APIs, and modern delivery practices
• A practical approach to AI in real engineering workflows
• Comfort working closely with product and challenging ideas constructively.

Salary

Up to £90,000 with benefits including remote working within NI.
