Job Description:

We are looking for experienced critical care nurses to join our busy adult intensive care/high dependency units.

You will need at least three years’ experience in critical care and be able to demonstrate advanced clinical knowledge. You will be expected to take an active role in helping us to continuously improve patient care.

Excellent communication skills are essential and a proven ability to support and mentor staff.

Core duties

The post holder will use specialist knowledge and competence to provide expert clinical care for critically ill patients. The post holder will offer support, guidance and teaching to junior staff members and take charge of the shift in the absence of senior staff. To act as a positive role model recognizing their responsibility to deliver high quality service in a courteous, patient focused manner.

Qualifications and Knowledge

  • Registered Nurse or equivalent with live NMC registration
  • ENB 100 or equivalent critical care course at academic level
  • Recognised teaching and assessing qualification

Experience

  • Able to demonstrate advanced clinical knowledge
  • Evidence of mentoring and development of staff

Skills

  • Be able to interpret clinical data and initiate action as required
  • To appraise the service and make suggestions for improvement
  • Ability to demonstrate problem solving skills
  • Able to provide effective feedback
  • Able to collate information and actively participate in discussions
  • Basic computer skills

  • Patient focused – committed to ensuring a positive hospital experience for patients and the relatives/carers
  • Awareness of current professional issues

Specific requirements

  • The role requires working within a designated area at an individual bed space which may be restricted by equipment. The post holder will need to be able to respond quickly to emergency situations in all areas of the unit.
  • The post involves internal rotation from long days to nights.
  • Sufficient to perform the duties of the post with any aids and adaptations.
