Senior Clinical Fellow in Functional Neurosurgery

This fellowship is designed for an experienced neurosurgical trainee to gain experience over one to two years in functional neurosurgery. The fellow will develop skills in assessment, operative techniques, research, multidisciplinary teamwork, and presentation at national and international meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and investigate patients for functional neurosurgery, especially those with movement disorders, intractable pain, and epilepsy, in both adult and paediatric cases.
  • Conduct research into functional neurosurgery and publish in peer‑reviewed journals.
  • Participate in a multidisciplinary team consisting of functional neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, neurologists, psychologists, psychiatrists, and specialist nurses.
  • Assist and, as experience permits, perform the majority of functional neurosurgical cases.
  • Attend one or two national or international meetings each year and present abstracts.

Person Specification

Education & Qualifications

  • Eligible for registration with the GMC
  • MB BS (or equivalent)
  • PhD, MD (original research) – optional
  • CCT or at least close to completion of CCT
  • Experience in trauma neurosurgery
  • Exposure to functional neurosurgery
  • Commitment to a career in functional neurosurgery

Skills, Knowledge & Ability

  • Knowledge and experience in elective and emergency neurosurgery
  • Ability to prioritise clinical need
  • Evidence of participation and active involvement in an audit project or research
  • Previous publications or presentations

Salary

£79,038 per annum, plus London allowance.
