About the Position
We are seeking consultants in Adult Emergency Medicine to join our team of 21 at the Bristol Royal Infirmary Adult ED, part of University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.
As a consultant, you will provide senior clinical presence on the shop floor from 08:00 to 00:00, seven days a week, with additional on‑call responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Lead the diagnosis, treatment and management of patients in the adult Emergency Department.
- Contribute to care within the ED Observation Unit, maintaining continuity of care when patients are transferred to or from other departments.
- Collaborate closely with the Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), ICU and specialty teams to ensure seamless, patient‑centred care.
- Retain responsibility for immediate care of patients on the ED floor while coordinating ongoing management with relevant specialties.
- Provide leadership during major incidents and support emergency admissions under on‑call specialty teams.
- Manage acute cardiac cases as part of a Regional Cardiac Centre and Trauma Unit, including out‑of‑hospital arrests and stabilising major trauma prior to transfer.
Qualifications
- Must hold, or be close to obtaining, CCT in Emergency Medicine or equivalent GMC specialist registration.
- Demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence, teamwork, teaching and service development.
