Job Overview

An exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, innovative qualified ACP to join the Specialized Cancer Services team, providing expert clinical care across the Day Case Unit and Acute Oncology Service at WPH. This role supports high quality oncology services across the South Yorkshire and North East Derbyshire Cancer Alliance, improving patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work as an autonomous accountable practitioner, assessing and managing patients receiving systemic anti-cancer therapy and those presenting with acute oncology complications.
  • Collaborate closely with medical, nursing and allied health professionals to deliver safe, timely, patient-centered care.
  • Lead and mentor junior team members, supporting the development of the wider nursing team.
  • Ensure clinical quality standards are consistently achieved and maintained.
  • Progress through and complete the ACCEND ACP framework in partnership with department managers and wider teams.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration or other NHS registration (e.g., HCPC) and relevant clinical experience.
  • Appropriate academic qualification – e.g., Masters in Advanced Practice or relevant MSc as required for Band 6, 7 or 8a.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development and, where applicable, Advanced Physical Assessment module and Non-Medical Prescribing.
  • Experience of autonomous practice, leadership, and mentoring (requirements vary by band). Specific band expectations listed.
  • Additional qualifications: Advanced life support (ALS/ILS), recognised leadership and teaching awards, post-graduate qualifications in Advanced Practice.

Skills and Knowledge

  • High standard of written and verbal communication, with ability to present complex information.
  • Strong prioritisation, workload management, and ability to support junior staff.
  • Leadership, negotiation, and reasoning skills, with a capacity to influence, coach and motivate others.
  • In depth knowledge of oncology pathophysiology, therapeutics and diagnostics.
  • Proficiency in interpreting clinical investigations and formulating management plans.
