Racial Equity Clinical Psychologist in Staff Psychology

We are looking for a compassionate and skilled clinical/counselling psychologist with expertise in racial equity work and staff wellbeing to join our award‑winning Trust‑wide Staff Psychology Service at North Bristol NHS Trust (soon to become the Bristol NHS Foundation Trust) as part of maternity cover for our substantive post‑holder.

PLEASE NOTE:

This post has been agreed to be offered as a positive action opportunity for a psychology colleague from a global majority background.

Working with the service Lead, the post holder’s role will be to provide accessible and culturally‑specific racial equity and trauma‑informed psychology support to global majority colleagues, both individually and in groups, as well as training and consultancy to teams and leaders to foster a culture of compassion, psychological safety and care for our global majority colleagues within our organisation.

Alongside individual work, the post holder will lead on the delivery of relevant training (e.g. introduction to racial trauma, the power of inclusion) and group work (e.g. healing after racial trauma, global and local conflict reflective space).

Main duties of the job

The Staff Wellbeing Psychology Team provides a range of responsive and well as pro‑active support to staff. The service has a particular ethos in supporting relational and team wellbeing, recognising that wellbeing and resilience are often more helpfully seen as being fostered by connections between us, not just within us. The service values innovation, co‑developing interventions in response to challenges and needs of our colleagues working in different contexts.

The post holder’s role will be to support the wellbeing of global majority colleagues and harness a culture of compassion, psychological safety and care for all colleagues, teams and patients with our Trust.

The service is committed to improving accessibility and acceptability of psychology support to colleagues from global majority backgrounds, as well as training and consultation across our trust. The post holder will attend to the increased request for culturally‑specific psychology support, and associated training and supervision.

About us

The post holder will be managed and supported by the Lead for Staff Wellbeing Psychology and the NBT Trust Advisor for Psychology and will work closely with other psychologists, doctors, and HR colleagues within the broader Staff Wellbeing service.

It employs more than 9,500 staff and has approximately 1,050 inpatient beds.

Alongside the Staff Wellbeing Psychology team, the NBT wellbeing service offers a range of other support for staff:

The Psychology service has active links with the Bath Doctoral training Programme in Clinical Psychology, offering a workshop on staff wellbeing as well as placements for final year trainees and opportunities for service‑development projects / research.

Job responsibilities

The post holder is expected to have a level of professional training and experience to independently prioritise and manage their clinical/nonclinical workload, and complete assessments and interventions without the need for close clinical supervision.

The post holder is personally accountable for their clinical decisions and is required to attend and make good use of clinical supervision arranged within the service, as well as accessing ad hoc supervision and peer support where required. The specific areas of duty and responsibility in this post are detailed below and will be interpreted through a job plan. This is agreed at least annually with the line manager to take account of varying demands and service changes. The job plan may be revised more frequently as circumstances change.
