Position Overview
The Senior Medical Writer must have a proven record of independently and successfully executing the responsibilities and demonstrating the competencies outlined below. They must demonstrate greater independence and ownership compared with the Medical Writer. Please see required experience below.
Responsibilities
- Content Development and Execution: Conducts required research in a timely and proficient manner, utilizing the appropriate resources; develops scientifically accurate, strategically aligned, grammatically correct, and impactful content from initiation through completion, with input from the manager; accurately and efficiently annotates content per brand style guide and AMA rules; assumes accountability for accuracy of work.
- Planning: Understands the product/scientific/therapeutic and competitive space and proactively provides recommendations regarding planned projects to the internal team; understands internal BGB processes and adheres to timelines and procedures, as agreed to by the cross-functional team.
- Client Interface: Actively engages in discussions with clients in a team setting; builds skills and is comfortable speaking to content during client calls; builds rapport with clients over time through demonstration of subject matter knowledge; may, at times, act as client-facing medical lead, with support from the manager; partners with the manager and Account team to provide the client with a united, organized, professional, pleasant experience on teleconferences and in person.
- Agency Interface and Process: Understands the role of Medical within the agency and works to set appropriate expectations and operating norms within the team; shares best practices and strategic insights within the team to maximize efficiencies; leads by example to demonstrate efficiency, team productivity, and superior scientific quality for all deliverables.

- Our Medical and Scientific Affairs Department consists of 70+ full-time team members, including MDs, PhDs, PharmDs, and engineers. Our Commitment to Teaching & Development
- We are an official student rotation site for six different pharmacy schools; teaching and mentoring is a part of the fabric of our business. Additionally, we have regular internal meetings to ensure we’re teaching each other, including lunch n’ learns, “medical buddy” programs, and outside speakers.
- We’ve contracted to work with one of the nation’s top executive coaches to provide ongoing group and one-on-one coaching.
Preferred Qualifications
We’re looking for smart, talented, and driven individuals who are interested in applying their scientific training to drug development strategy and scientific knowledge exchange. Our ideal candidates are detail-oriented and team-focused, with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience: Senior medical writers must have at least one year of experience in medical communications or related industry.
- We welcome candidates from other career paths who want to switch to medical communications; a position will be determined by analysis of relevant skillsets.
