Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical CNC Service Engineer to join our team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Mechanical CNC Service Engineer who is looking for a field-based role with variety, autonomy, and excellent career development prospects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out installation and commissioning of CNC machine tools
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical faults on CNC machinery
  • Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing
  • Conduct machine alignments, geometry checks, and accuracy testing
  • Support troubleshooting of CNC controls including Heidenhain, Siemens SINUMERIK, and Fanuc
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics
  • Replace and adjust mechanical components such as ball screws, linear guides, bearings, spindles, tool changers, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems
  • Conduct root cause analysis and provide corrective actions
  • Provide technical support and training to customers where required
  • Complete service reports and documentation accurately and promptly
  • Liaise with internal departments regarding parts, technical issues, and scheduling
  • Maintain company tools, equipment, and vehicle in good condition
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and site procedures

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Proven experience servicing and repairing CNC machine tools
  • Strong mechanical engineering background
  • Hands‑on experience with CNC controls (Heidenhain, Siemens SINUMERIK, and Fanuc)
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical and basic electrical faults
  • Experience with machine geometry precision alignment, hydraulics, pneumatics, and lubrication systems
  • Ability to work independently in a field‑based environment
  • Excellent communication and customer-facing skills
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel with overnight stays
  • Apprentice‑trained engineer or equivalent qualification is desirable
  • HNC/HND or NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is desirable
  • Experience with multi‑axis machining centres, turning centres, PLC fault‑finding and laser calibration is advantageous
