Control Systems Engineer

Our client in Derby is recruiting an experienced Control Systems Engineer to join their team and contribute to bespoke automation projects in a medical industry manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new control systems
  • Program PLCs and HMIs (Rockwell / Mitsubishi)
  • Work with software including Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View, GX Works2, GT Designer 3, and Machine Edition
  • Implement control systems software and associated equipment
  • Support existing and legacy control systems and machinery
  • Follow SOPs to ensure consistent and controlled software development
  • Drive continuous improvement and maintain control systems, including PLCs and HMIs
  • Upgrade existing equipment and integrate new automation solutions
  • Develop functional, hardware, and software design specifications from user requirements
  • Carry out FAT, SAT, and on-site commissioning (including worldwide travel where required)
  • Produce detailed documentation including FDS, FAT reports, and user manuals
  • Promote teamwork and contribute to a positive working culture
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards, GMP, and health & safety regulations
  • Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Undertake any additional tasks as required by the business

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in control systems or automation engineering
  • Strong PLC programming experience, ideally with Rockwell / Allen Bradley systems
  • Experience working within packaging machinery, special purpose machinery or similar engineering environments
  • Proven track record in automation control for machinery projects
  • Experience with motion control / servo systems (advantageous)
  • Ability to produce clear and detailed technical documentation
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness to travel for commissioning when required
