Typical Day of a PAT Engineer
As a PAT engineer, every day is different, from hospitals to retail outlets. You start by packing tools and equipment into the van, then travel to the first job. On site, you test appliances such as microwaves, kettles, and computers, checking safety and necessity of repair or replacement. You inform users of results, explain findings, and record outcomes in a test report or electronically.
You may also need to complete additional paperwork such as completion certificates and checklists. The job requires staying organized, completing tests accurately and efficiently, and moving between locations, alone or with a team.
The work is physically and mentally demanding but rewarding. It offers variety and advancement opportunities.
