Senior HR Advisor – Manchester – Competitive

Portfolio are delighted to represent our client in their search for a Senior HR Advisor on a 12-month FTC.

As part of the HR team aligned to the key fee earner groups in the UK, you will support the firm’s growth and development plans, participate in ad‑hoc HR projects, provide day‑to‑day operational support, and partner strategically to drive priorities.

Responsibilities

Employee Relations

  • Work with line/HR managers to handle absence cases, including support and timely submission of occupational health referrals or income protection forms.
  • Advise on the day‑to‑day application of HR policies and procedures.
  • Provide benefits information and advice, ensuring benefits for staff are timely and accurate.
  • Handle employee relation issues such as disciplinary or grievance matters, provide support and maintain accurate records.
  • Manage maternity or shared parental leave, return, and flexible working applications in collaboration with line/HR managers.

Resourcing

  • Support HR managers in timely, cost‑effective resource management.
  • Collaborate with recruiting line/HR managers to build business cases and authorize vacancies before sourcing.
  • Coordinate with HR shared services for staff changes and management information.
  • Assist in developing apprentices/gradutes, liaising with the early careers team and training providers.
  • Support new joiners from offer to commencement, including induction plans.
  • Support leavers from resignation to departure, conduct exit interviews and review MI/turnover themes.

Performance Management

  • Provide rigorous performance management support as required.
  • Assist in annual and interim performance review processes to ensure timely and documented reviews.
  • Support the annual salary review process for all teams.

Other

  • Create MI and monthly reports to identify trends within BS teams.
  • Lead ad‑hoc projects within BS teams regularly.
  • Support firm‑wide engagement and inclusion surveys, liaising with managers to implement actions.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Proactive role within an HR team with strong business partnering experience.
  • Graduate calibre and/or CIPD qualification, though not essential.
  • Previous generalist HR experience at a similar level, ideally within a professional services or fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Influence at senior levels with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Manage a complex, changing workload flexibly and efficiently.
  • Strong team orientation.
  • Juggle multiple tasks and deadlines while maintaining high attention to detail.
  • Highly computer literate, with strong Excel skills.
