Job overview

We are advertising for 2 posts to expand our current workforce of ten substantive Consultant Medical Oncologists and four visiting Clinical Oncologists.

Calderdale & Huddersfield NHSFT has been a pioneer in the provision of DGH-based oncology services since 1996. These roles will support the delivery of sustainable Oncology services across the wider geography.

Main duties of the job

This will be a 10PA full‑time post, with less than full‑time working options available. The post holder will travel to multiple sites where patient care is provided, work on the inpatient oncology ward, and provide a focal point for oncology queries. On‑call and rota duties will be managed in a 1:9 or 1:10/1:11 schedule.

Applicants must be on the General Medical Council Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees in a UK training programme. All other categories of doctors must be on the GMC Specialist Register, and applicants must hold a Licence to Practice.

Qualifications

  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Specialist registration for Oncology (or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees)
  • Registered with the General Medical Council and hold a Licence to Practise

Experience and Achievements

  • High level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of the Oncology specialty
  • Significant minor Oncology procedures experience and other postgraduate qualifications that can advance the department
  • Understanding of current issues within the wider NHS
  • Attendance at a recognised management course
  • Ability to work with and lead others across professions

Teaching and Training

  • Experience and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non‑medical staff
  • Academic achievements and evidence of familiarity with research methods, resulting in publications
  • Training in clinical and educational supervision
  • Attendance at a teaching course

Audit and Research

  • Knowledge of audit principles and participation in audit projects
  • Critical appraisal skills
  • Knowledge of research methodology
  • Good communication and empathy skills with patients
  • Willingness to participate in a multi‑disciplinary team environment
  • Teamwork, communication, and workload sharing
  • Ability to manage high pressure situations, such as clinical crisis
  • Ability to prioritise, organise workload, and coordinate staff
  • Flexibility to deliver clinically effective and cost‑effective healthcare

Practical/Intellectual Skills/Personal Qualities

  • Evidence of continual learning and development
  • Understanding of self (strengths and weaknesses) and impact of behaviour on others
  • Evidence of innovation

General

  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Ability to work across various locations within the Trust network
  • Requirement for EPP Clearance for certain procedures
  • Enhanced DBS disclosure required through the Disclosure and Barring Service
