Position Overview
Payroll Officer – Manchester (3 days office, 2 days remote each week).
Hourly rate: £14.36 – £15.39 per hour (DOE). Duration: 3‑6 month contract, with possibility of permanent placement.
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to support payroll operations in our utilities and construction sectors during a period of change and systems development.
Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly and fortnightly payrolls for site-based and office employees.
- Support implementation of new payroll systems, including testing, data migration, and user training.
- Collaborate with finance and IT teams to improve payroll processes and reporting.
- Prepare and submit P11D forms in line with HMRC requirements.
- Support year‑end payroll activities, reconciliations, audits and statutory reporting.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation for compliance and audit purposes.
- Produce payroll reports and analysis for finance and operational teams.
- Ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation and industry‑specific payroll practices.
- Liaise with HR, finance and operational managers during project mobilisation and demobilisation phases.
Required Skills and Experience
- Previous payroll experience within a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements.
- Experience using payroll systems such as ADP, PeopleHub, Sage or similar.
- Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with HR and finance systems.
- Strong communication skills with a proactive approach to problem solving.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience managing payroll across multiple sites or projects.
- Knowledge of CIS and contractor compliance within construction environments.
