Job overview

This is an excellent opportunity for a Band 5 Clinician to join a busy LMHT, supporting patients to recover and remain well in their own homes. You will be based in a diverse team and manage a caseload of patients from the City South area. Your role will involve being a Key Worker, planning, facilitating and reviewing patient‑centred care, involving their family, carers and external agencies. The ideal candidate will be a team player, able to manage a caseload and work autonomously, contribute their ideas to the MDT and build therapeutic rapport with patients. You will support on duty, as well as supporting junior staff and students.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and self‑motivated Band 5 Community Psychiatric Nurse to work in the City South Local Mental Health Team.

You will need to be able to engage proactively with individuals using the principles of recovery to provide effective mental healthcare for patients across the mental health spectrum, alongside care coordination for some patients under the Care Programme Approach. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the service and develop your own skills and attributes.

Duties will include involvement in managing a medication clinic, case management of clients with complex mental health needs, utilising professional core skills and working with family and friends. The role will include involvement in the development and promotion of the City South Local Mental Health Team.

This post would suit a newly qualified mental health nurse, and we welcome applications for students in the final stages of their pre‑registration nursing course.

DBS & Vehicle requirements

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.

Person specification

Qualification

  • Maintains current registration with NMC or NMC registration is pending completion of course in very near future

Skills

  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to be flexible and handle conflict issues
  • Good skills in assessment, intervention and evaluation of patients nursing care

Experience

  • Demonstrates satisfactory clinical expertise for banding
  • Specialist and area specific experience

Knowledge

  • Knowledge and understanding of current legislation and understanding of clinical risk assessment
  • Awareness of national and local issues affecting care delivery

Contractual Requirements

  • A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post
  • Ability to work to meet the needs to the service (including unsocial hours and bank holidays)
