Assistant Animal Technician

We are looking to expand our team of Animal Technicians at our world class facility here at Tranent. We are a progressive and close-knit team, working hard to ensure the safety of new medicines which target life threatening and debilitating diseases and especially proud of our contribution in developing the Covid-19 vaccines. We are passionate about our animals, striving to provide the best possible care with a culture of continuous improvement.

Candidates must have a passion for working with animals and share our commitment to their welfare. In this role you will perform routine and moderately complex animal husbandry and clinical observations in a regulatory compliant laboratory setting. You should have a minimum of 4 Nat 5 or equivalent qualifications.

This is a physically demanding role so you need to know you will be active and on your feet for most of the working day.

Responsibilities

  • Husbandry duties / delivering essential care and well‑being services to the animals
  • Positive interaction with animals, including providing treats, fruits and vegetables
  • Participating in animal training programmes
  • Handling animals for procedures
  • Performing physical environment cleanliness and upkeep and maintaining accurate records
  • Documenting animal behaviours and activities

Qualifications

The role requires a minimum of 4 Nat 5 or equivalent qualifications. A positive attitude with a strong work ethic and reliable attendance are essential. The position is physically demanding and requires the candidate to be active and on their feet for most of the working day.
